Biography
I have lived and homesteaded in the Arrow Lakes area in the West Kootenays since the 1970s.
The stunning vistas of this beautiful place have inspired my art in the form of photographs taken from my travels around the local countryside as well as from the many hours spent enjoying and caring for the family farm and gardens with my best friend and soul mate Ken by my side…

If you are looking for a used book you’ll probably find it at Meritxell Books on Broadway in Nakusp. The store is filled to the roof with shelves of books catering to all interests.

Owner and self-confessed “bookworm,” Wes Towle opened the shop in 1991. It is one of the longest-running businesses that has come through the Community Futures door.

In this day of e-readers and e-books, it is still nice to go to the bookstore, buy a book, crack it open and delve into a good mystery, romance novel or science fiction thriller. There is just a certain satisfaction from holding a book and turning its pages.

Check out Meritxell Books the next time you are downtown Nakusp, you’ll find a good read!

A creative incubator for locals, an inviting haven for visitors.

Along the placid shores of the West Kootenays’ Upper Arrow Lake, lays the rural village of Nakusp. Every week, the old Nakusp Firehall inspires, nourishes and supports the community by hosting Nakusp’s 50 Mile Year Round Market.

This market focuses on local – very local. In order to support the truly remote food producers and artisans in the area, all vendors are within a 50-mile radius of Nakusp. On offer, everything from fresh produce and apple cider, to handcrafted birdhouses and original works of art – and on market days, hot meals from the repurposed community kitchen.
