No matter what time of year, Whatshan Lake Retreat is a great meeting place for large groups, friends and family.
Our retreat is located in southeastern British Columbia, nestled in the Monashee mountains next to Whatshan Lake. We are just minutes away from the community of Edgewood.
The Retreat Centre Lodge offers full facilities for Corporate Retreats, seminars, workshops, family gatherings, weddings, concerts, and youth activities. Our acoustically engineered stage is perfect for music festivals and plays under the stars.
At Whatshan you can get away from it all to enjoy quiet peaceful walks and moments of contemplation. On July 3, 4, & 5, 2020 bring the whole family out for the events and activities during the Whatshan Jam, a Family & Friends Festival. In the winter bring your snowshoes and skis and trek through our over 200 acres of wilderness and beyond and then warm everyone up with some hot chocolate in one of our modern cabins.
Freedom Quest is one of the organizations that our charitable organization sponsors. Based in Castlegar, Freedom Quest seeks to support and strengthen youth in difficulty at home and in the community. Freedom Quest runs various youth programs which include activities at Whatshan.

Valkyr Adventures is owned and operated by Martin and Shelly Glasheen who have made their home in the foothills of the Valkyrs since 1977. Starting from scratch we build a homestead and raised our two children in the mountains. Martin’s vision to create a series of cabins in the mountains was hatched in the late ‘90’s and finally made it through the provincial application process in 2003 when we obtained our Commercial Licence of Occupation to operate our Adventure Tourism business. Each lodge is handcrafted and built from locally sourced timber. Construction began with falling the trees and milling them on our Woodmizer sawmill into posts, beams and dimensional lumber. All the building material had to be trucked up the mountain on logging roads then flown into the building site by helicopter. Needless to say it takes a monumental effort to build lodges in the alpine! We’ve done it not once, not twice but three times! Valkyr Lodge opened in winter 2005, Hilda Hut in 2012 and The Outpost in 2017. It has been a rewarding experience and it has given us great pleasure to host our ski touring and alpine hiking guests up at our mountain retreats.
