Nakusp Visitor Centre hiring summer students

The Nakusp & District Chamber of Commerce is looking for Visitor Information Counsellors. Applicants must be full time students intending to return to school in the fall of 2017.

Work Tasks & Responsibilities:

– Identify information needs in support of visitor requests

– Provide accurate information to visitors regarding destinations, transportation, accommodation, etc, options and costs, and suggest suitable products/activities in the community, region or province via mail, phone, email and in person

– Research and document information on local resources, recreation, attractions and community events to encourage new and return visitors

– Assist individuals or groups to organize vacation/travel plans

– Promote tourism products and services

– Ensure visitor understanding of information provided

– Distribute promotional materials

-Encourage new and return visits

-Gather and record statistical information related to each visitor party

– Sell merchandise and handle cash transactions

– Maintain brochure racks and ensure adequate inventory is always on hand

– Review existing materials and update them as necessary

– Work with industry partners

– Comply with professional dress code and grooming standards

– Follow all Standard Operating Procedures as outlined for the Visitor Centre

– Perform other administrative tasks as required

– Work independently in a team environment

-complete Visitor Information Counsellor training

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

– Outgoing, friendly, welcoming demeanor

– Knowledge of attractions, events, tourism products/services in the local area

– Excellent communication skills – face to face, telephone and written

– Excellent customer service skills

– Able to work in a fast paced environment and multitask

– Current computer skills including internet and email, social media
