Trans 101: An Intro to Gender Identity @ Nakusp
Oct 16 @ 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm

Trans 101:

An Intro to Gender Identity

Does your business, organization and community provide safety & inclusion for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender?  Do your current practices and services provide safety and inclusion?

Join us for this FREE workshop to increase your knowledge.

Come learn how to talk about trans people in a respectful way, debunk some myths about trans people, and better understand the trans people in your community. This is a beginner’s friendly environment, and no knowledge about the LGBT+ community is needed to attend!

This presentation will cover terminology and tools to develop a supportive & inclusive environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender people & their allies. It will include a short film and a Q & A session.

Presenter Milo Leraar is the Trans Connect Coordinator at ANKORS, a transgender health and community program for the East and West Kootenays. Milo is a non-binary trans person who uses the pronouns “they” and “them” instead of he/him or she/her, as they are neither a man or a woman. Milo is also a social worker and educator, who believes strongly in the rights for all people to be supported in health, wellness, and to live free of discrimination.

Introduction to Palouse Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction @ the Meditation Room, Spiritual Wellness Centre, Nakusp
Oct 17 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

 Introductory session to Palouse Mindfulness

The Palouse Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction online course can be very effective when done individually, but is is challenging to stay with the course when done alone. Doing the course with others increases the likelihood of completion, thanks to the commitment that you each make, to doing ti together. Due to the way this course is structured, with videos and written materials, Fran Ure can lead this group, and provide each participant with a Manual of instructions and readings for each of the eight weeks.

A preliminary hour-long session gives an introduction to the course, so that each person can make an informed decision about the eight week program. The course requires considerable commitment, including thirty minutes daily of mindfulness practice.

The eight weekly classes will run for 2 hours each, from October 24 through December 12th.

They will involve a guided mindfulness practice, and a short check-in on daily progress. Following a break, the group will view videos for that week’s theme, and have a discussion of the practice assignments for that week. Handouts, including practice sheets, will be given out each week.

Cost for the eight week course:

$20 for the Manual: a binder of printed course materials (optional).

A sliding scale donation to the Centre of $5 to $20 per session, for eight weeks.

INTRODUCTORY SESSION THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17TH, 6 PM IN THE MEDITATION ROOM OF THE SPIRITUAL WELLNESS CENTRE

To register, or for more information, call 250-265-4123 or 250-265-7384
